On this day back in 1980, the world met a little yellow circle with a big appetite—and gaming history changed forever. Pac-Man burst onto the scene with a simple concept, addictive gameplay, and a soundtrack that’s etched into the minds of gamers everywhere. Over four decades later, Pac-Man is still gobbling pellets and dodging ghosts in arcades around the world… including right here at Griff’s Place!

At the time of its release, Pac-Man was revolutionary. Instead of shooting or racing, players had to outsmart ghosts, navigate mazes, and aim for that elusive high score. It didn’t take long for the game to become a pop culture phenomenon—spawning merchandise, cartoons, and even a top-10 hit single, Pac-Man Fever” by Buckner & Garcia.

💥 Fun fact: Pac-Man was originally called “Puck-Man” in Japan… but the name was changed for Western release to avoid, let’s say, creative vandalism of arcade cabinets.
